"Weekly car news " is a recap of some of the major stories in Taiwan car market last week.

7th November 2022

●Hotai Motor began the pre-sale of the 5th generation Lexus RX, and the powertrains and the starting MSRPs are RX350 (NT$ 2,480,000~2,980,000), RX 350h (NT$ 2,600,000~3,100,000), RX 450h+(NT$ 3,250,000~3,650,000) and RX 500h(NT$3,700,000).

●Hotai Motor, Yulon Nissan, Mercedes-Benz Taiwan pointed out that it takes about 2~3 years to solve the issue of the insufficient supply of new cars due to the chip shortage, insufficient supply of raw materials, and the difficulty of the supply of key components.

8th November 2022

●Foxconn invested about 170 million US dollars on the American BEV startup company Lordstown Motors to become the biggest shareholder.

●MIH Consortium held the MIH Demo Day to introduce the Project X, which utilizes the open and agnostic BYOV (Build Your Own Vehicle) platform to manufacture small BEVs.

●Pan German Motor began the pre-sale of the BMW XM, and the MSRP starts from NT$ 8,890,000.

●Nan Yang Industries introduced the Hyundai Custin, and the trim levels and the starting MSRPs are GLT-A “旗艦款” (NT$ 1,329,000) and GLT-B VIP (NT$ 1,469,000).

10th November 2022

●Ou Ji Automobile began the pre-sale of the Opel Mokka, and the trim levels and the starting MSRPs are the Mokka Edition (NT$ 1,039,000), the Mokka Elegance (NT$ 1,119,000) and the Mokka-e Elegance (NT$ 1,399,000).

●Ford Lio-Ho introduced the 3rd generation Ford Tourneo Connect, and the trim levels and the starting MSRPs are the “玩樂版” (NT$ 1,098,000) and the “玩咖版” (NT$ 1,248,000).

●Pan German Motor introduced the Mini Multitone Edition, and the MSRP starts from NT$ 1,860,000.

●Modena Motori Taiwan announced to introduce the Ferrari 296 GTS on 29th November.

11th November 2022

●Volkswagen Taiwan introduced the MY2023 Volkswagen Golf, and the features have been improved but the MSRPs are also raised.

●PG Union introduced the facelifted Citroën C5 Aircross, and the trim levels and starting MSRPs are the Feel Pack (NT$ 1,309,000) and the Shine Pack (NT$ 1,559,000).

●The government of Japan will establish a joint-venture company Rapidus with enterprises including Toyota, Denso, Kioxia, NEC, SoftBank, Sony, NTT, etc., to develop the next generation semiconductors, and scheduled to complete the construction of the plant before the end of 2029.

12th November 2022

●The construction of the BEV manufacturing factory HORIZON PLUS, the joint-venture of Foxconn and PTT Thailand, has begun, and it is scheduled to be completed in 2024 for new car delivery. The annual production capacity is 50,000 units in the early stage, and it will be up to 150,000 units in the future.

●Tesla plans to export the Model 3 and Model Y manufactured by Tesla Giga  Shanghai to North America. They are currently researching the regulatory compliance of the components, and scheduling to begin next year.
